The MANY benefits of Coconut Oil

If you haven’t heard of coconut oil or you don’t use it on a regular basis, you are in for a TREAT!  Coconut oil not only CoconutOiltastes great, but it is an excellent high temperature oil that is great for cooking.  In addition to the taste and versatility of this oil, let’s take a closer look at some of the health benefits.

Coconut Oil positively affects our blood sugar and helps to control our thyroid

People who consume coconut oil tend to have positive blood sugar improvements as it helps to improve insulin use within our body. Coconut oil can also boost thyroid function helping to increase metabolism, energy and endurance.

It IS heart healthy.

Although coconut oil is primarily a saturated fat by nature, it does not lead to an increase in HDL and LDL levels. It is heart healthy and improves cholesterol ratios which reduces the risk of heart disease. Coconut oil has a fat called lauric acid which is a type of MCT. Lauric acid increases good (HDL) cholesterol in our  blood which improves RATIOS of HDL and LDL.

Aids in FAT LOSS

When used in preparing lean proteins and vegetables, coconut oil is helpful in reducing weight.   It has been shown that breaking down the type of fats in coconut oil in the liver leads to more efficient fat burning

It gives you “carbohydrate like energy” without the carbohydrates!

MCT oils are a special type of fat that is digested and handled by the body more like a carbohydrate, than a fat. Most fats are long-chain triglycerides which are difficult to process, and are typically stored in the fat cells.  MCT oils are absorbed in the bloodstream, and bypass the digestive process that most ‘fats’ take.  MCT oil provides quick energy for the body and therefore is less likely to be stored as body fat. When MCT is metabolized in the body, it behaves like a carbohydrate as opposed to a fat.

YUM!

Coconut oil adds a really great taste to all foods but it is much superior to butter and other regular baking oils. It is ideal to add in place of other oils and butters to BAKED GOODS and it is AMAZING in stirfry’s and sautees! Just about ANY fish or vegetable sauteed with coconut oil is unbelievable!

It is superior to other oils

It does not form harmful by-products when heated to normal cooking temperature like other vegetable oils do

It has Antibiotic properties  Coconut oil contains has anti-fungal, anti bacterial and anti-viral properties! When consumed you body converts the properties in the oil into a very beneficial properties for your body! These properties are claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as influenza. It also kills bacteria that causes ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, ringworm, athletes foot , gum disease and cavities.

Digestion: It increases digestion and helps to absorb fat-soluble vitamins.

Reduces Inflammation: There is evidence that coconut oil reduces inflammation, boosts energy and endurance and that it improves digestion and absorption of other nutrients including vitamins and amino acids.

Fountain of youth? There is research supporting that coconut oil actually helps prevent wrinkles and age spots.

Convinced? There are many brands of coconut oil. My PERSONAL favorite (that I buy by the gallon) is Tropical Traditions. To learn more about it click on the image below or look  HERE
