Benefits of Bone Broth
Have you heard of bone broth? Before you gag (I actually did when I first learned about it), check out some of these benefits of bone broth. All I had to hear was “anti-aging” effect and “increase skin elasticity” and I was sold! Once I started drinking it daily, I have noticed that ALL of my joint pain is LONG GONE!
There are many benefits of bone broth. If you are not already eating it, add it to your diet TODAY!
You may know it as beef or chicken “stock” which is used as the base for delicious soups and sauces.
Broth makes an easy stand alone meal or snack with fewer calories and fat than milk and eggs, but offers the same nutritional benefits.
Bone broth is rich in collagen, the most abundant protein in our bodies and is made up of amino-acids: glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine.
It is also rich in vital minerals like calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, and potassium.
What are the benefits of bone broth?
The powerful combination of amino acids and minerals offer many health benefits:
- Improves digestion and overall gut health
- Strengthens bones, muscles, tendons
- Boosts immunity
- Fortifies hair & nails
- Improves elasticity in skin and can result in reduced appearance of wrinkles
- Reduces internal inflammation which can be the catalyst for many diseases, ailments, and common health problems
- Improves joint function and reduces joint pain
- Releases toxins
- Curbs appetite
- Easily digestible
- Contains valuable nutrients
Collagen is very popular right now in the supplement space but can be very costly and ineffective. Bone broth offers a real, whole food way for your body to get the collagen it needs.
It’s so easy to make in your slow cooker and only needs a few simple ingredients! You can drink the bone broth or mix it in anything you’re making that requires water or broth. Try it!
How To Make Bone Broth:
Grass fed bones (poultry, beef, pork, foul)
Filtered water (enough to cover the bones in the pot)
Apple Cider Vinegar- 1 Tbsp (this is essential as it pulls the minerals from the bones)
Pinch of Sea Salt & Pepper
Make it your own by adding your favorite seasonings, garlic, greens, onions, carrots. I personally love to add fresh cilantro and parsley to mine!
Cook on low in a slow cooker for at least 6 hours. Chicken bones can cook for up to 24 hours and beef bones as long as 48 hours.
Once cooled, pour through a sieve into air tight containers to freeze or refrigerate (lasts 5-7 days refrigerated).
Don’t panic when your broth cools and it looks like meat jello. Gelatin is the form that collagen takes when cooked and the more gelatin, the better. Once heated again, the gelatin will liquefy.
If you don’t have the time to make your own bone broth, or are traveling, you can purchase a great travel mix here!
