09 Feb Put a SPIN on your workout routine
It may be Time to put a SPIN on your workout routine with SPINNING!
Spinning – We ALL can get bored of the same exercise routines. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does you may need something to motivate you extra hard. This is why I frequently advise trying new classes, taking different trails, working out at different times or try a different gym. Changing it up keeps us motivated, challenges us and keeps our muscles guessing.
If you are looking for an addition or change to your existing workout program, you may want to consider Spinning. Spinning combines strength and cardio in one. It’s you against the bike & who do you think comes out the winner? Not to mention, it doesn’t hurt that you can rock out Katy Perry without looking foolish!
8 Things you should know about Spinning
Don’t be afraid to ask for help: EVERYONE started out a beginner at one time or another. Improper setup of the bike can hurt your knees or your back. Instructors are there to help you. It takes 5 minutes to learn the proper mechanics and setup. It can take months to recover from injury. Certified Spinning instructors are trained (and paid!) to help you with this so don’t be afraid to ask.
Keep Hydrated: It’s important to drink before, during and after a spin class. Most classes have cool air blowing from the ceiling. You may not realize how much you sweat. Bring a water bottle with a sports cap so you can easily drink it while spinning without spilling.
Easy on the joints: Spinning is low impact. There are so many exercises that are hard to do if you have an old injury. Spinning (with proper setup) keeps the pressure away from your knees and feet. Many people who have a hard time running get the same benefit from spinning without risk of injury.
Serious calorie burn: Is it bikini season yet? You can burn up to 800 calories in one spin class! Combined with proper eating you WILL see results within weeks! It takes 3500 calories to burn one lb a fat. That may sound like a lot but with the amount of calories you can burn spinning you can be well on your way to your weight loss goal in no time!
Every level can ride together: Regardless of your fitness level, spinning doesn’t leave anyone behind. Group rides are all about having fun while getting the most out of a workout!
You don’t need special shoes or clothes Special “bike” shoes are ideal but you do not need these bike/spinning shoes to join in the fun. Spin shoes do up the anti by keeping your foot locked to the pedal, but tightening the strap on the pedal works just as well.
Don’t forget the heart monitor: There are a wide range of Spin classes offered. You want to keep 80% of your rides endurance and 20% Anaerobic. Endurance rides work to burn fat whereas Anaerobic classes challenge your heart.
Don’t forget to have fun. In the end this is what spinning is all about!
