My Kind Of Cardio – Track Workout
Over the years, many of you have asked me about cardio. For those who have been following me on social media you know that I am not a huge fan of the “long, slow” types of cardio on stationary equipment.
Think sitting and reading on the exercise bike, or reading while moving your feet on the elliptical or treadmill…the kind of cardio where the minutes go by, but your heart rate never ticks up, and the sweat never rolls down.
I prefer short, intense workouts that get my heart rate up, and send some sweat running down! Those are the workouts that truly challenge me…AND those are the workouts that CHANGE your body! One of my favorite types of workouts is a track workout.
This is my type of “cardio”. These workout can be extremely effective and the training ideas are endless at the track.
My advice – grab a friend to help push you and keep you motivated. Bring lot’s of WATER! These workouts can be intense so you want to make sure you are properly hydrated.
Start your track workout with a warm up:
You can do some light jogs around the track or a fast paced walk or jump into a stair workout (my training partner called this a warm up…but I thought it was a workout in itself!)
Try Every step, every other step, hops with both fee, hops on one foot, cross overs going side ways, side steps. I pick up the intensity on the way up, but suggest being careful on the way down.
Active/dynamic stretching: Knees up, leg kicks, butt kicks and walking lunges
Hit the pull up bar and dip bar for some chin-ups and dips! Have your partner hold your fee to help assist you on the pull ups or start with just hanging to develop the strength
Sprints! A GREAT way to fire up that metabolism!
