Yoga For Type A Personality- VIDEO

Yoga for Type A PersonalityOne love movement yoga

I have had yoga envy for quite some time. I would repeatedly hear how “relaxing” it is… how “great” it is… how “amazing” it is over and over and again I would sign up for a class DETERMINED to love it only to well, let my “type A” personality interfere.

My yoga attempt would go something like this…

  1. I would sign up for the newest best class thingy.
  2. I would RUSH to get there.
  3. I would try to get in “ommmmm mode” only to be watching the clock, thinking about everything I SHOULD be doing, and I would get totally distracted and annoyed that I was supposed to be breathing and letting my mind go for an hour. Ommmmmm NO.

But I still had yoga envy. And then one day, it all changed….

In my effort to LEARN to love yoga, I stopped by the newest yoga place near where I live. I walked in, asked if they had an instructor that could come to me and MAKE me do yoga.  And THAT is how I met Kim.

Now Kim comes to my house and we pretty much do everything that most yoga studios would cringe at. We play hip hop music and we chit chat the whole time. She leaves after our hour is up and I feel refreshed, recharged, just like a yogi. 🙂

You see, in that hour and the way I like to unwind, Kim now calls me a YOGI. 🙂

Posture #1 – Child’s Poseyoga for beginners by natalie jill

Allow your body to open up and settle into four corners of your mat. Plant your chin on the mat, rather than your forehead. Adjust hip bones down, opening up your pelvic/hip area. If you need to modify, you can draw your knees in closer to touch.

Posture #2 – Downward Facing Dog

Spread finger tips wide, palms shoulder width a part, feet hip width distance a part, heels down and your elbow creases turned slightly in.
Note: Downward facing dog is a perfect posture to come back to at any time during practice, allowing you to reset your body.

Posture #3 – Mountain Pose

This is a great grounding posture. Take your arms high overhead, squeeze feet together, drop your tail bone down and keep your belly tight.

Posture #4 – Variation of half moon

Hands point up, take a big breath in and on your exhale, glide your body to the right and send your hips to the left. The purpose of this pose is to stretch the left side of your body (or opening up the right side depending on which side you do first). Keep your shoulders down, belly in tight, arm bones back behind your ears, and drop your tail bone.

Posture #5 – Crescent Lunge

This is amazing posture to open up your hip flexors.
Step your left leg back and come into low lunge. As you dip your hips down and forward, you will feel stretch on left side hip. It’s okay to have your knee over your toes, rather than over your heels as you would in a typical lunge position. To protect your lower spine in this posture, squeeze your right foot toward your left knee. That is what naturally pulls your right hip back and your left foot forward. It also helps you to take weight of your body out of your lower back.

Posture #6 – Wide Legged Forward Fold

With this pose, it’s important to start from ground up. Your feet are parallel to each other, your heels are out and your toes are in, keeping a soft gentle bend in your knee joints. The weight of body shifts to the ball mount of your feet rather than heels of your feet.
